Milkshake Morning and More
Sunday morning, prepared for a writing session at my backyard.
Today I decided to start the day with my most favourite breakfast-shake:
- Cashew milk
- 2 bananas
- 1 TS of sesame seeds
- 1 TS of linseed seeds
- 1 TS of Maca powder
- 1 TS of coconut sugar
- 2 TS of cacao powder
- 2 TS of peanut butter
- a pinch of cinnamon
Served in a glass jar with a bamboo straw.
It is so delicious, you want to bath in it!!
Today I also decided that it is time to not make compromises anymore. I mean compromises on my pure and natural lifestyle.
I will never call myself a Vegan or put myself in any other drawer. For sure I will never be able to live completely trash or plastic free ...
... but there is still so much to improve!
Yesterday, for example, I went to a fancy place for a cup of coffee and a piece of sweets to go along with my writing session.
The place was really great and I was sitting at a comfy table, had an amazing view of Sliema harbour in sunshine with all those boats and yachts, Valletta in the background.
But the coffee was served in a take away cup and the sweets were on a paper plate which came with plastic cutlery!
When I was done ... everything had to go into the trash!
That´s an absolute NO GO!
Some years ago I was inspired by Lauren Singer, a young New Yorker who lives a trash free life.
At this time I didn´t have any intention to change my lifestyle.
Okay, my parents taught me to live economical and some little things always were important to me, but I never put any concrete thoughts on a more sustainable lifestyle.
Until that day when I was flicking through a magazine and found a tiny article:
a young, sympathetic looking woman, sitting cross-legged in faint jeans dungarees and beaming into the camera. The head line said:
"When you check out Lauren Singer´s homepage you will never buy a plastic toothbrush anymore"
Before that I had never given any thoughts to my toothbrushes ...
Her homepage, her experiences and her short videos about making your own natural cosmetic products inspired me that much that I started my journey of a more natural and pure lifestyle.
"Trash is for Tossers" - Lauren´s homepage changed my life! THANK YOU, Lauren Singer!
I started with little things and it was fun: finding new solutions, changing habits and feeling good about doing the right thing for the environment.
First it was all about the fun.
Then I discovered how well my body reacts on all the organic, natural ingredients I put in and on my body.
With the 2020 pandemic and the extra time to focus exclusively on myself I finally also managed to change my eating habits into something (almost) natural, pure and organic.
My body reacts to that with a huge transformation, which I enjoy every day!
There was this key moment in the first weeks of the Corona lock down.
At this time I still bought ... shit!
Chocolate, crisps, cookies, ham, cheese, bread, ...
I ate cookies just because they were there in a glass jar on the kitchen counter. Until I asked myself: "Why are you eating cookies every time you get up the desk even when you don´t want to eat cookies?"
So the next time I went to the supermarket I didn´t buy cookies anymore.
And one day after work I was really hungry.
I checked my fridge and I cooked a meal for myself. A vegan lasagne with carrots, pepper, zucchini, mushrooms, a tomato sauce and vegan cheese to make the sauce creamy.
I ate the lasagne.
And it was so delicious!
And the lasagne, cooked in a glass container, looked so colourful!
And the feeling of only eating natural and pure things, was so exciting!
I enjoyed that meal more than anything!
So my next purchase looked like that:
I enjoyed shopping and cooking so much. I enjoyed to find new solutions and new ways. After a couple of weeks my body started to change. I lost weight - of course. Which was not my intention number one but it was great as a bonus!
Well, I am far from being skinny ... but I loved to see him starring at me in surprise.
I WANT to live that lifestyle!
